Location

This workshop takes place at The Kelpies in Falkirk, one of Scotland’s most recognisable modern landmarks and a spectacular location for aerial photography. Standing around 30 metres tall, the two monumental horse-head sculptures, Duke and Baron, provide an incredible subject from the air, with their scale, form and stainless-steel structure offering endless opportunities for creative compositions.

From above, you’ll explore different perspectives of The Kelpies and the surrounding Helix landscape, learning how altitude, angle, light and focal length can dramatically change an image. The location is particularly well suited to practising panoramas, exposure bracketing and more unusual top-down and architectural compositions.

With the Forth & Clyde Canal, surrounding parkland and wider Falkirk landscape providing additional context, the workshop offers the opportunity to create everything from detailed architectural photographs to sweeping aerial views featuring one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks.
